Creative Visualization
"The Art of Dreaming on Purpose"
Creative visualization is a powerful technique for
improving self esteem, changing your attitude, yourself and therefore... your life.
The Power of Visualization
We already use the power of visualization, consciously or unconsciously. Have you ever worried about a particular situation? Imagining
the worst that could happen. Did it help? Of course not, it made things worse.
If you lack self confidence, you probably tend to visualize the worst outcome before a challenge, imagining yourself failing, being ignored
or humiliated. This is the reason why people with
low self esteem procrastinate, quit easily and don't take any risks. They've
already failed in their mind and felt what it feels to lose.
Creative visualization use the same principle than worry but to your advantage.
By visualizing the best outcome and what you want in life, you are creating this "winning feeling"
that is essential for achieving anything in life.
Successful athletes and business men have applied the power of visualization for many years to get that winning feeling and self confidence.
Why Creative Visualization Works
Creative visualization works because we don't see and perceive the world as it is but as we are. It is the half filled glass principle.
Take a glass filled half way (the reality, the world as it is). Do you see it half full or half empty (your view, the world as you see it)?
Positive, confident and successful people always see it half full, they have faith in themselves and focus on the positive side
of a situation and on their skills. Negative people with low self esteem and defeating beliefs generally put their attention on the empty half,
focusing on what they don't have, can't do and assuming the worst. Creative visualization will change the way you look at the world,
therefore, it will change your world.
The emotions and feelings we get from visualization are as strong and powerful as the ones we get from real experiences.
The subconscious which processes emotions like fear, anxiety, confidence and courage does not make any difference from
real experience and what is vividly imagined. Considering that your mind control your decision making and actions, inducing the subconscious with creative,
positive thoughts using visualization and
affirmations will eventually change your own behaviour and habits.
Visualization Exercises
Like in meditation,
visualization exercises first involve relaxing the body and clearing the mind (see here how).
Once the body and mind are clear of stresses and distractions, visualization exercises can start effortlessly by imagining positive scenes.
If you have low self esteem, you can imagine situations where you are confident, outgoing, worthy and doing great things. See yourself starting new
relationships
with positive people, see yourself doing that speech perfectly at a meeting.
If you have a particular goal you want to achieve, like starting your own business, buying a house or go on a trip for a vacation, visualize the end result
clearly. See the business or the house in details, be specific, feel what it feels to be on that trip.
The buzz, new ideas, feelings, confidence and hopes you will get from these visualization exercises are invaluable
because you need to BE before you can DO before you can HAVE.
These are only a few basic exercises. You may want to read "Visualize and Achieve"
to get all the information you need about visualization. This book is packed with tips
and techniques, easy to follow instructions and advive to use imagination and creative visualization
for attracting the things you desire in your life.
Visualization and affirmations work well together like mantras and meditation. They have the same purpose which is to impregnate the mind with positive thoughts which will affect your thinking, which
in turn will affect your attitude, your behaviour, your actions and therefore your results.
It is said that it takes about a month for a new idea or new image to sink in, so give it a chance,
practice visualization faithfully for at least a month, preferably in the morning or evening when your mind
is relaxed.
Dreams are your subconscious mind trying to communicate with you. Creative visualization
is YOU communicating with your subconscious telling what you want...what you want to achieve and what you want to become.

"Man may become the master of himself, and of his environment,
because he has the power to influence his own subconscious mind".
