Meditation Benefits
For Self Esteem

Meditation benefits are countless, physically, mentally and emotionally, including the regain of self worth and self esteem.

Why is that so?... and what meditation's got to do with self worth and self esteem issues?

To answer those questions, let's see first why the benefits of meditation are needed these days more than ever.

In our modern western society, life has become very busy, hectic and therefore challenging for many of us.

Material possessions, though necessary and pleasant have become a big part of our focus as it gets harder to keep up with the increasingly speed of changes in technology. There is always a new toy, a new car or a new whatever that is better than ever and that we need to acquire.

From the early age, we learn that life is not easy, that we will have to compete to get what we want and be strong, efficient and smart to "make it". As a result we learn to fear our environment rather than being in harmony with it.

stress

The ever increasing challenges and demands "to have this" or "to be like that" can be very stressful, and with stress comes stress related diseases and disorders like high blood pressure, ulcers, insomnia, anxiety, depression and yes, even low self esteem.

In the quest to "keep up" and achieve in our modern society, we lose ourselves tangled in a web of conformity and values, and along the way, we forgot who we really are, what we really want and who we really want to become.

And one the most important of all the meditation benefits is to reintroduce you to yourself, your real self and to your true nature.

What Is Meditation?

Meditation is a technique to quiet the mind and to relax the body to a state of stillness and tranquillity.

By doing so, your awareness expand, your ability to focus on a particular object (idea) is more acute and a whole new perspective about who you really are and your life in general is revealed to you.

To understand this, think of your mind as a strong river with torrents and rapids (your thoughts) flowing constantly. A noisy, repetitive, brouhaha about the past, present and future, negative self talk rushing with no control from your part.

Now, throw a piece of wood in the water and try to follow it. After a few seconds, it will disappear in the stream, reappear further to only disappear again until you eventually lose it. This piece of wood represents an object or idea you want to concentrate upon.

Try...close your eyes and try to concentrate on a particular object for more than 10 seconds. You will find that you can't. Some other unrelated thoughts will "sneak in" without your consent and you will keep losing the object of your concentration.

stillness

Now, think of a still pond, the water is clear and you can see the depth. Throw a leaf in the pond and follow it. The leaf stays or moves slowly creating a soft ripple effect.

Effortlessly you can contemplate it, leave it at any time, come back to it and to the ripples it has created.

Once you stop the chatter, in the silence of meditation, you find space to direct your mind wherever you like and to concentrate on a specific thought steadily but also to its ripple effect. You have become the master of your thoughts.

This is another one of the meditation benefits.

How to Meditate?
How to meditate is quite simple as any act can become a meditation and there are many meditation techniques of which one will surely fit your requirements.

Meditation and Self Esteem

You can now understand why it can be so difficult to deal with emotional issues like low self esteem when the mind is cluttered with negative thoughts that we don't have control of.

Once we regain control of our thoughts, we can begin to deal with our issues.

Low self esteem is the result of deeply ingrained issues in our mind so going "within" to find the source and to resolve those issues is so beneficial.

This is why some use visualization and hypnosis as well.

In meditation, you will learn to be gentle and compassionate with yourself, to understand and accept the unique being that you are with no pressure from the outside. When the pressure is gone, your true nature will reveal itself.

If you could only see how precious you truly are,
you would realize that what you are seeking
is what you already are.
